[livejournal.com profile] shirebound!! So sorry to do this to you today! Another letter!

Dear Sam,

I am sitting outside in the Courtyard on a fine spring day watching the White Tree bloom again. The fragrance reminds me very much of Rivendell (and oh, I envy you that you got to see that fair place again). Today is one of those clear days where if I strain my eyes enough I could almost believe I could see the hills of the Shire. I jest, of course! The Anduin looks bright blue, and everything has become green again!

Little Ellohir is fine. He is speaking many words now. He turned two just two weeks ago, and we had a grand party for him. Aragorn dotes on him so, and in the weeks leading up to the party, you would have thought he was preparing for war or famine, the way he sent his servants about getting presents and food and delicacies of all kind. Ellohir got many presents, including magical gifts from Dale, Dwarf-made, such as the kind as were given away on mine and Bilbo's birthday party -- THE party, you know. And of course I bought little presents for Ellohir to give to the guards' children. He will not grow up without hobbit sense and manners!

But I have a rather amusing tale to tell about the umbrella. Ellohir loves it and is in fact playing with it right now, spinning it on the grass like a top, though there is not a cloud in the sky. Yes, he loves it now, but that was not always so. When he first opened the gift, he was rather puzzled. These silly Gondorians have no use for such practical things. THey would rather walk around the city drenched. So of course dear Ellohir had never seen such a contraption. Well, he fumbled around with it, his finger hit a notch, and the umbrella flew open! The poor sweet little hobbit child (for I shall continue to call him a hobbit, whatever Aragorn says about his lack of foot hair, until proven otherwise) was nearly frightened to death! He ran away from it, leaped in my lap, and pointed to it, screaming through his tears about monsters. None of the older boys were much braver, and they seemed to view it a think that should be destroyed at once!

Well, I am happy to say that I saved the umbrella from a tragic death and now Ellohir is the envy of all the other little boys.

As Ellohir cannot write, I am enclosing a picture he has drawn for you. You might not be able to see it, but it is a picture of him in his swing, which Aragorn made for him.

I hope this letter finds you and Rosie and all the other little ones in good health.

Much love always,

Frodo
