Drabble for Belleferret
Title: True
Pairing: Frodo/Sam
Rating: PG
Step after blistering step, Sam pushed on, one sturdy arm around Frodo’s bony shoulders. The fiery mountain always seemed just ahead, but they stumbled forward for hours and got no closer.
Frodo stopped, breathing hard.
His lips, once soft and eager under a Shire harvest moon, were now chapped and burned. His eyes, once filled with sapphire adoration under the splendid sun of a Rivendell morning, were now dull with pain.
“I’m glad you’re here, Sam,” Frodo said. “Whatever happens, I’m glad you’re here, my love.”
His heart, pledged to Sam under the fairy lights of Lorien, was still true.
