Title: Duty
Pairing: None
Rating: G
Word count: 139
Summary: Frodo gets a visitor or two while in the Houses of Healing.
Frodo's bandaged hand, though outside the blankets, rested on something warm and furry. A gentle rumbling soothed the shadows of his dreams. He opened his eyes to sunlight and a fragrant spring breeze through the open window.
Aragorn sat nearby, reading a book.
"Don't you have better things to do than to wait by my bedside?" Frodo asked. "Kingly things?"
Aragorn smiled and put down his book when he saw that Frodo had awakened. "There is no greater honor than watching over the Ringbearer. I think Tabby would agree."
Frodo noticed then what had warmed and comforted him during sleep. Tabby, the cat whose main job was to keep the mice and rats at bay, had curled into bed beside him. He purred still, utterly content in his duty to keep the Ringbearer warm and free of fiery dreams.
