Title: World in Color
Pairing: none
Rating: G
Summary: Frodo finds that this October sixth anniversary is a bit better in the Undying Lands...

On October sixth, Frodo opened his eyes, lying still in his bed, afraid to move. He felt no ache in his shoulder, but it did not exactly feel normal either. There was something different about it. He could not help but be aware of it, and yet he felt no pain. From the distant beach, early morning waves smashed against the sand. Birds with colorful plumes chattered gaily just outside the open window. The world was bright, full of color, the sun full in the sky.

"Good morning, Frodo!" Bilbo rapped on Frodo's window. "Aren't you up yet?"

Frodo groaned and pushed himself into a sitting position, so sure that at any moment pain would erupt in his shoulder, that the magic would shatter.

But not so. Not only was there no pain, but there was a tingling, bubbling sensation there that, dare he hope, almost felt good.

"What did Gandalf put in my tea last night?" he asked, massaging his left shoulder with his right hand. "I never sleep till mid morning."

"Does your shoulder hurt?" Bilbo asked with concern.

"No," Frodo said. "Quite the opposite, really. It's the oddest thing. It almost feels. . .why, there's an odd sensation there. Something feels downright queer about this day. The world seems full of color and delight. It is October sixth, is it not?"

"October sixth will always come," Bilbo said. "But perhaps here the shadows are not welcome. Do not tempt them."

"Tempt them?" Frodo snorted. "They are not invited."

***

On the beach, Frodo and Bilbo sat on a blanket on sun-warmed white sand and ate a picnic of Elvish delights while watching Elves harpoon long, silver fish that they would no doubt turn into yet another culinary delight that evening. Gandalf joined them, and both laughter and smoke rings were plentiful that day.

No clouds slid over the sun, and the world never dimmed from its splendor.
