Frodo leaned against Aragorn with a content smile. Safe in Aragorn’s protective embrace, he curled his arm around the King’s broad back. They lounged on the settee that centered their balcony, from which they delighted in a splendid view of Minas Tirith, the distant Anduin, and the stars that spread across the sky like shards of mithril. A balmy breeze rustled the cotton blankets that swaddled Ellohir in his bassinet. The baby slept, sucking on two tiny fingers.
“The stars shine bright tonight,” Frodo said.
Aragorn smiled. “They say when song blossoms in Valinor that the very stars in Middle earth rejoice.”
Frodo breathed in the sweet summer air and imagined Gandalf, Bilbo, Elrond singing on that far shore with a joy that can only burst forth from healed heart. His heart lifted with theirs as he basked in the starlight.
