[livejournal.com profile] shirebound!! So sorry to do this to you today! Another letter!

Dear Sam,

I am sitting outside in the Courtyard on a fine spring day watching the White Tree bloom again. The fragrance reminds me very much of Rivendell (and oh, I envy you that you got to see that fair place again). Today is one of those clear days where if I strain my eyes enough I could almost believe I could see the hills of the Shire. I jest, of course! The Anduin looks bright blue, and everything has become green again!

Little Ellohir is fine. He is speaking many words now. He turned two just two weeks ago, and we had a grand party for him. Aragorn dotes on him so, and in the weeks leading up to the party, you would have thought he was preparing for war or famine, the way he sent his servants about getting presents and food and delicacies of all kind. Ellohir got many presents, including magical gifts from Dale, Dwarf-made, such as the kind as were given away on mine and Bilbo's birthday party -- THE party, you know. And of course I bought little presents for Ellohir to give to the guards' children. He will not grow up without hobbit sense and manners!

But I have a rather amusing tale to tell about the umbrella. Ellohir loves it and is in fact playing with it right now, spinning it on the grass like a top, though there is not a cloud in the sky. Yes, he loves it now, but that was not always so. When he first opened the gift, he was rather puzzled. These silly Gondorians have no use for such practical things. THey would rather walk around the city drenched. So of course dear Ellohir had never seen such a contraption. Well, he fumbled around with it, his finger hit a notch, and the umbrella flew open! The poor sweet little hobbit child (for I shall continue to call him a hobbit, whatever Aragorn says about his lack of foot hair, until proven otherwise) was nearly frightened to death! He ran away from it, leaped in my lap, and pointed to it, screaming through his tears about monsters. None of the older boys were much braver, and they seemed to view it a think that should be destroyed at once!

Well, I am happy to say that I saved the umbrella from a tragic death and now Ellohir is the envy of all the other little boys.

As Ellohir cannot write, I am enclosing a picture he has drawn for you. You might not be able to see it, but it is a picture of him in his swing, which Aragorn made for him.

I hope this letter finds you and Rosie and all the other little ones in good health.

Much love always,

Frodo

I had originally planned to make it into a longer fic, but then it just seemed to fit into the letter challenge and all :-)

Thanks! ;-)

Gondorians and umbrellas -- how do you think of these things? That's such a great idea, and I love poor Ellohir getting a fright from something behaving like a jack-in-the-box. (It's probably very good I don't have children of my own!) Anyway, I always hated toys designed to scare me...

Thanks for the sweet bed-time letter home.

Ah ha ha! Actually, I do have an episode in which ARagorn brings home a toy from Rohan that's like a jack-in-the-box and it scares the crap out of him. I think it is, in fact, called "The Box". And I got the idea from my husband saying he had a young nephew who was terrified of umbrellas...

Thanks! :-)

Hee, that's so cute! I think I like the end the best, when Frodo talks about the picture---I can imagine Sam might have a tough time determining who is who in a pic by a two-year-old. :)

And of course Frodo thinks of him as a hobbit child---probably gives him six meals a day, too!

Charming and sweet, as your TLTW stuff always is.

Thanks!! I wrote that totally unedited on LJ, as I wasn't at home on my own computer, lol.

And of course Frood gives him six meals a day! ;-)

How adorable! I love your description how both Frodo and Aragorn prepared the party and the umbrella incident. It's very sweet.

Indeed not. What a nice way to start my morning!

Awwwwww! I love this, Claudia! And is that the same swing you had in a short fic. with Faramir trying to help Aragorn build it? That was yours, right? Anyway - this was very cute and very vivid. Great work!

Wheee! How sweet and darling! You know I adore Ellohir (who is, of course, a very good-looking child. ;D), and he reminds me so much of my nephew, who's 2 1/2. I must have more TLTW!

Kisses.

Well, I don't know any artists, but if any of you out there are, and wish to draw Ellohir for me, I'd love to see it! ;-D

Thanks! And I think it was Lily who had the swing that Aragorn couldn't put together, lol. But I did have an episode in which Aragorn introduced Ellohir to the swing, which was called, predictably, "The Swing".

ROTFL. Poor lad! I can imagine a two year old being terrified of an umbrella. Perfect imagery. And I can remember playing spinning top with my lil umbrella when I was a child.

This is just what I needed this evening! I love the image of Aragorn running around arranging for the birthday party like it's a military campaign. And the umbrella ... you put in the bit about the umbrella :-)

Lovely.

Poor little hobbit child (I'm siding with Frodo on this one) Going back to the drawing of Ellohir, I actually drew a picture of him a while back when I started reading this too great for words Universe. Its a little cartoony but I'll send it to you if you would like.
