Huh. Was bored last night because I was too exhausted to do anything meaningful or useful. Even watching television or reading fan fic was not doing it for me. So I aimlessly wandered the web...

I was looking at my hit counts on Archive of Our Own (if anyone wants an invite, I think I have one left). Now, I still don't have all my fics up there, not by a long shot, but I have A through I, plus about 1/3 of Too Long to Wait. Anyway, here are the fics of mine with the TOP Hit counts!

1. A Gift for New Years (Frodo/Aragorn, MPREG, (NOT Too Long to Wait verse))

2. A Different Gift (Frodo/Faramir, MPREG, Lantern Gift universe)

3. A Little Comfort Before Darkness (Frodo/Aragorn, Frodo/Boromir, MY VERY FIRST FAN FIC and so full of every annoying interspecies and hurt/comfort trope that I am embarrassed that my name is on it, and yet I love it because it was my first baby and the way that I met some of my dearest friends on LJ)

4. Arranged Marriage (Frodo/Aragorn). I loved writing this and then I ran out of steam right toward the end because I started to take it in a direction that I don't think I wanted to take it and now I sort of want to backtrack and make it go a different direction...still could do that, I suppose! :)

5. Too Long to Wait: Toys Well, it is pretty adorable! Poor Aragorn! :D (Frodo/Aragorn, implied former MPREG)

6. A Conversation With Bilbo (MPREG gen)

7. Bonding By Numbers Elrond forces the fellowship to get along and oh boy, do they evah! (Frodo/Aragorn, Sam/Boromir, Merry/Pippin, Legolas/Gimli, Gandalf/himself).

8. Blissful Nights (Frodo/Boromir, again one of my very first fan fics, and oh boy is Frodo ever a teenage girl in this! Still I remember having the best time writing this fic!)

9. Too Long to Wait: Breathe (Frodo/Aragorn, MPREG)

10. Too Long to Wait: Bathtime (Frodo/Aragorn, implied former MPREG).

Anyway, this was fun! I do realize that some of the higher counts are because of some of the fics being there longer than others, but it's interesting to me to notice a pattern in general that the profound, carefully wrought gen fics have the fewest hits and the fics that I wrote out of pure kink or fun or AU scenarios or the fics with more warnings/higher ratings have the most! And in general, MPREG fics get more hits than anything! :)

Well, I'm setting off later than most mornings because we have meetings all day today. Meh. I'm feeling under-motivated to sit and listen.

It's terrific that your fics are being read and enjoyed wherever they go. :)

Crap in a hat! I think you've given me a plot bunny of the MPreg kind!(Next time before reading your posts, I will have to use protection.) I've never had one of those before. I don't know if it will get written but it's rolling around in my head trying to decide if it wants to come out.

I don't think I've read most of these. I'm going to have to find the time to hop over there.

I think it's so neat to see the hitcounts and know what other people are looking for. I think people really use those "additional tags" a lot and the mpreg one is an important one, so my one mpreg fic is the LotR fic of mine with the most hits, but some of my other gen pieces also have pretty high counts because people went looking for something else unusual like a rare fandom or an unusual crossover. Remember that fic I wrote for Obama's inauguration with the five different fandoms? That's one of my most popular fics there too.

That's really neat that people use those tags to find fics. I definitely try to be pretty consistent in my tags, although it's certainly possible I've messed a few up, lol. I will be curious to see if The Shire Slave, my poor, dear kinky gen fic that never got finished, gets high counts again like it did on Stories of Arda when it was there! :)) (I'm sure that one would have gotten kicked off if it had been noticed by the wrong people, too!)

oh I had forgotten about that inauguration fic! That's really cool!

I have a special place in my heart for all the Too Long to Wait fics - I'm glad all your fics have a new home where they can find a new audience!!

I'd love to go and re-read some of these - if only there were more hours in the day!! *hugs*

He, that's very interesting findings. :D But I have also noticed on LJ that longer fics get less comments than shorter and funny ones get more comments than serious ones - and I think it has to do not so much with how much people have liked the fics but that they think for something long or something serious they need to write "better" feedback and feel not up to the task and then leave without any kind of comment. :S

That's an interesting point on the longer, more serious fics! Makes sense to me! I know I put off reading longer fics a lot of times, waiting for the right opportunity, when I have a bigger chunk of time...and then it never happens! D: So yeah, I totally understand that idea! :)

But of course the big problem is that that writing long, serious fics takes a lot of time and when the authors feel that no one is reading because no one is leaving feedback then they'll stop writing. :(((

Yes, exactly! :( I have so many abandoned projects because of that, myself...

In general, I think the LOTR fandom needs a major boost right now!
