Happy Valentine's Day from Casey and Zeke
Feb. 14th, 2011 06:05 amI didn't participate in the Faculty Valentine's exchange, but I wrote a little ficlet for you all this morning!
Title: Sonnet
Rating: G
Pairing: Casey/Zeke
Summary: Casey gets a mysterious valentine.
Casey fucking hated Valentine's Day. Watching all the lovebirds at Herrington High hold hands wearing matching red sweaters, the girls squealing with delight when they opened little heart-shaped candy boxes, only reminded him of what he did not and could never have.
Casey struggled with his locker combo, wishing he had woken up with the flu or diarrhea or just about anything that would have gotten him out of coming to school that day. When he opened his locker door he saw an envelope on the inside of his door.
What the fuck?
He had never given his combo to anyone. He touched it gingerly as if it might explode in his hand. He looked cautiously around the door, watching for the football team to be high-fiving each other and choking with laughter as they got Casey yet again.
When the envelope did not explode, Casey opened it. Inside was a simple red heart and written in long strokes was part of a Shakespeare sonnet.
Thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Casey looked around, his cheeks burning. He searched again for the punchline. Where were the chortling football players? The final bell rang and the hallways had emptied.
All except one person.
Zeke Taylor hovered near his own locker, as usual not nearly ready to head to class until he was at least ten minutes late. Zeke, who made Casey weak in the knees just to look at him. God, Casey had crushed on him since seventh grade, and here he was, the only one left in the corridors on Valentine's Day after Casey had received his one and only Valentine. Zeke met Casey's gaze and nodded at Casey with a mysterious smile before he slammed his locker door shut and headed off down the hallway. As he passed Casey, he murmured, “So long lives this.”

Date: 2011-02-14 01:44 pm (UTC)I absolutely loved that Casey was constantly nervous and jumpy and waiting for the other shoe to fall. And then of course it was his Zekie-boy. <3
