Good afternoon!

I hope you guys in path got through/are getting through the hurricane intact!

I have a question which I might repeat later if enough of you are off LJ because of power outages! :)

I would make this a poll, but eh...

Fandoms

What do you think are some major fandoms out there right now, either one that you're really into or one that friends on your flist are really into?

On my flist, I see:

1. LOTR (mostly gen fic or hurt/comfort, but occasional Frodo/Sam and interspecies and mpreg)
2. Lotrips (mostly Sean/Elijah, although sometimes other pairings mostly written by Moit :))
3. Supernatural
4. Merlin
5. Faculty
6. Sentinel
7. Dr. Who
8. Star Trek (movie)
9. Full Metal Alchemist
10. Battlestar Galactica

Am I missing any big fandoms? What are you most into right now? What are some "it" fandoms that you know about?

Of course I am still into LOTR (and TH, but I always think of it as part of LOTR), as it's my OTF and always will be. That said, fandoms I've been reading in lately that you don't have listed (as opposed to writing) are

Star Trek (not just the movie, but also TOS and TNG and the other shows)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (but not the Angel spin-off, which I never got into)
the Silm
Sherlock Holmes (the original stories, not the TV show or the movie)
(Though the Sherlock TV show seems real popular)
Stargate-1

I've really been into looking for good crossovers-- I've been getting into crossovers a lot lately. I just finished a terrific Buffy/ST:TNG crossover and another Buffy/Men in Black crossover, and several really good Doctor Who crossovers.

OH! And let us not forget Harry Potter! HP has got a lot of stuff going right now, what with the last movie and all.

OMG, it didn't even make your list? You are SO missing the BBC television show Sherlock. Best.thing.ever. And it has a humongous, active fandom with tons of good fic being produced daily.

I also see Sherlock (the new BBC series) and Torchwood, but otherwise this more than covers what I'm seeing on my flist. Though the biggest part of my flist is still mostly into nos. 1, 2, 3, & 5.

For myself, while I do enjoy some of the other shows or movies (Sherlock, Torchwood, Dr. Who, Star Trek and BSG), my personal preference for fandom are still the same old nos. 1, 2, & 4.

I only read Faculty, but Torchwood and Harry Potter are pretty big over in the UK.

Sherlock Holmes, in all it's variations. Although my flist is kind of dominated by the BBC show at the moment.

I think people's covered most of the ones I see. Dreamflower mentioned SG-1, but Stargate Atlantis also appear on my flist. Sherlock Holmes, Supernatural and Merlin seems to be the big ones. And most people are to some degree into LOTR. With Stargate there seems to be some crossovers to NCIS and other shows too, but I'm not into those so I don't really know. Yeah and then there's Harry Potter.

I'm a SG-1 girl with some SGA flings and of course I'll never lay off LOTR. It'll always be there.

The big ones I'm seeing all over my flist right now are:

Lotrips (of course)
Supernatural
Inception
Hawaii 5-0
X-Men: First Class
Merlin
Battlestar Galactica (kinda enjoying a resurgence, which is nice)

And I have to admit, with the exception of Merlin, I'm reading in all of them (though I'm just reading and staying FAR, FAR AWAY from the crazy that is the Supernatural fandom).

True Blood
Game of Thrones

Maybe Hawaii Five-0 which is hugely popular on my f-list and I'm seeing a small, growing ground swell of Suits love.

Plus, when it comes back, Sherlock the TV series.

Doctor Who is huge at the moment, both for myself (classic series) and my f-list (new series.) It seems to be everyone's main or side fandom! He's just so versatile.

My fandom right now is mostly Canadian actors. 6 Degrees of Due South. THis gets me all of Paul Gross, so Due South, Men on Brooms, Slings & Arrows. AND it gets me Callum Keith Rennie (the Cylon Leoben) and Wilby Wonderful.

Yup, I pretty much live in Canadian headspace these days.

OME! I made your list! *blushes*

Most of what I see is also on your list (with the addition of Sherlock as someone noted). There are only two of us on your list (that I know of) who are into FMA and I'm the one who tempted Lily into it. *cough* I'm such a corrupting influence!

And I'll ALWAYS be into LOTR, ST, and DW... ;)

Well, since I've publicly left Dom for Jared and Genevive Padalecki, that should explain that.

I wonder why you ask.

I dabble in this and that and if something new and shiny catches my eye, I'm there.

I'm reading Criminal Minds slash at the moment :) Fandoms am also following but not necessarily reading in are Merlin, Doctor Who, Sherlock, and if someone wrote it - Fright Night, lol

LOTR goes without saying, of course!

NCIS is a *massive* fandom, but then it does have 8 series to draw on! And lots of people have drifted away by now. Inception seems pretty big for one film.

2. Lotrips (mostly Sean/Elijah, although sometimes other pairings mostly written by Moit :))

Totally missed that part.

I rock. :D

I can only talk for myself. The shows I follow are: LotR, Doctor Who, Supernatural (though I'm a season behind because they are not on freeview here and I need to wait for the DVDs), Merlin, Fullmetal Alchemist - and three that are not listed: Being Human, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. I might read stuff written by friends in all fandoms if it appeals to me but I've only really participated in LotR, Being Human and most recently and mostly with artwork Fullmetal Alchemist.

Seems like a lot of folks are into Supernatural, Faculty and Merlin. Personally, I am a hard core LOTR's (1)

I'm not sure if White Collar creates its own fandom. And Leverage is quite big for some of SPN lovers. :)

Date: 2011-08-29 09:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com
White Collar has a large (or at least very devoted) fandom, and right now H50 seems to be very, very popular. A lot of Stargate: Atlantis fans have moved over to H50 because the dynamic of the two main (male) characters is just about exactly the same as it was for the two main (male) SGA characters.

Sherlock BBC and the movie are very big, so is Inception, definitely. There are still people clinging resolutely to SGA, Merlin and SG-1, but I've definitely been noticing the slow but inexorable migration to fresher and greener fandoms. :)

I miss SGA.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this one: Harry Potter!! It's a HUGE fandom, and has been for many years. And then there are all the 'sub-fandoms,' made up of the vast amounts of different pairings that people are shipping.

Ah, after reading the comments again, I see that one person has mentioned HP. But I'm still surprised. :) Anyway, other fandoms I can think of are: Torchwood, Moonlight, True Blood, Blood Ties, Firefly. And, um, Twilight (but I'm not too disappointed nobody mentioned that one. ;p)

I've had a look at the comments above, and I can't think of anything off the top of my head to add to your fandom list.

I think you know my answer to your pollish question, but I'll put it here anyways! I tend to focus on or be active in one fandom at a time, but all the others that I have enjoyed still linger and I still love them.

Doctor Who (active)
LotR
Battlestar Galactica (old and new)
Harry Potter
Star Trek (all, but #1 is ST:TNG)
Babylon 5
