LOTR double drabble
Jan. 8th, 2009 10:14 pmUm...okay, so half of you might disown me. Sorry, I'm in a dark mood right now...
Warnings: severe angst, possible interpretation of character death
The sea was not the silver beauty of his dreams. No Elvish singing eased his heart. No ship bound for the Undying Lands, not for him. This sea frothed with black and icy waves, and it beckoned him to enter its embrace. His shoulder was stiff and cold. He stood on the shore letting the frigid water hiss around his feet. A clear moonless sky offered a spread of sprinkled jewels, distant and unreachable. He fondled the stump where once his finger had been, always mocking him about all that which he could not accomplish, not the least of which getting back to a normal life. He was loved by many, but his heart was too numb, too weary, the veil between himself and them too thick. He was a burden to Sam and Rosie, despite their protestations to the contrary. One step in front of the other. The waves tickled his ankles, the icy water seeping through his skin, matching the cold in his shoulder. Step by step. The waves smacked him in the waist now, pulling at his numb legs. When he was up to his neck, he saw that the stars were not so unreachable after all.
