For Hanarobi - a drabble

This is sort of a late birthday present, lol. Do you remember that book you sent me and you wanted to see some fan fic from it? (The Spare Room). Well, I wrote a little drabble. I picked an odd little scene that jumped out at me, probably having nothing to do at all with the theme of the overall book (haven't finished reading the book, lol!)



Jo lit a candle and sat by the empty crib. Ann had remembered—Jo could tell by the pity in her eyes. But she had not remembered that this was the actual date. Otherwise she never would have asked about the diapers. She was too wise. Everyone had told Jo that time healed all wounds, but Ann had understood that this wound was different. They told Jo that a precious angel would watch over her with the whisper of baby wings. She did not want that. She needed the warmth of him wrapped in a pink blanket, sweetly smiling, seeking love.

Oh yes, it's very easy to feel the grief and the dire sense of loss here... even though I have never read the book, either, it's a lovely drabble and very emotional.
