This is not really a drabble since it's 252 words, so we'll call it a ficlet! ;)
dreamflower02 asked for a Ranger to give much needed help to a snowed-in hobbit family!
Griffo Boffin huffed and puffed, pressing all his weight against a mound of heavy snow. The icy wind blasted his face, but sweat poured from his brow. Never since the fell winter of 2911 had the Shire seen a snow like this. Any other day, this might have been a novelty and he would have cheerfully remained indoors until it melted away, but just this morning, his dear Daisy, her belly swollen with coming babe had whispered to him that she thought her time would be soon.
“Hoy, little fellow, would you accept my assistance?”
Griffo startled to see a Man with dark hair that fell to his shoulders and keen, gray eyes towering over him. He held a shovel in his gloved hands.
“I mean you no harm,” the Man continued. “I am Halbarad.”
Griffo forgot his fear of Men and begged, “Please, my wife,” he gestured behind him, “the baby is coming and I cannot get out to fetch the midwife.”
Halbarad nodded and began to shovel the snow with his powerful arms. In not too long a time, he created a narrow pathway, surrounded by mountains of snow taller than a full-grown hobbit, to the road.
“Aragorn has gone to fetch the midwife,” the soft-spoken Man said, “These roads will not be clear until the snow melts, I warrant.”
Griffo could not thank him enough.
“No thanks needed for duty.”
Halbard left then, and Griffo watched him, his heart filled with gratitude, until he disappeared into the nearby woods.
